Tricks & tips: How to get background colour and image tile to show in Outlook2007, Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail

Step 1:

Add this to you head tag:

<style>
<!– .body {background: #B31923;}–>
</style>

Step2 :

Add this to your body tag:

<body bgcolor=”#B31923″ background=”http://www.yourimagename.jpg ” leftmargin=”0″ topmargin=”0″ marginwidth=”0″ marginheight=”0″>

Step 3:

Add a 100% Table with no color or background:

Eg:  <table width=”100%” border=”0″ cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″>

Step 4:

Now add a table row and then assign your bg color and  your bg tile image into the actual TD tag .. eg:

<tr><td background=” http://www.yourimagename.jpg “></td><tr>

This will now work in Gmail, hotmail, Outlook 2003 / 2007, yahoo and most others.

Email Spending to Hit $2B by 2014!

I was recently reading an article about the state of email marketing spend. David Daniels, an analyst from Forrester Research talked about their newly published email marketing spend report and how email spending will grow from the astonishing $1.2 billion this year to $2 billion in 2014.

The report also showed that customer retention, which is essentially what you use MailGloo for, will be responsible for 75% of the total spend.

How to Create an Effective Newsletter

The idea of creating a consistent e-newsletter to issue on a monthly basis seems daunting.

Well fear not, you can put a surprisingly compelling newsletter together with a small amount of information. It’s fairly common practise amongst many email marketers to put too many offers together in a single email and then calling them newsletters.

The result, nothing stands out, it isn’t clear to the customer what action they should take, and over time recipients stop opening the emails. A great e-newsletter can be created with very basic information that is readily available. The key is a balance of information and offers (remember the “what’s in it for me” factor). Start by testing a newsletter format with 3 content sections and then increase to 5 over a series of a few months. Let your audience decide the right about of content with open and click through rates.

A study by Sharpe Partners, an interactive marketing agency, revealed that 89% of adult Internet users in America share content with others via e-mail. This is good news for companies who use computers as their way to sell their products.

Their study also shows other interesting result aside those things that mentioned above. This is with regards on the kind of content that are often forwarded. The most popular content is humorous material.

Next is news. Next is healthcare and medical information, religious and spiritual material, games, business and personal finance information and sports/hobbies. So if you will use viral marketing as one of your tool in promoting your product, use humor as your content since it is the best content among all categories.

Cartoons, jokes and funny video clips are among the things that can be added to an e-mail to insure that it will go viral.
